Used to pass through a wall with 1 ft. Cat 6 patch cable. Easier if you offset the plate not directly behind one another. Did not use sheet rock boxes, used flat head sheet metal screws with plastic anchors. Shame on me!

No special tools required. Buy a cable with connectors, run one end through the wall to a wall box, stick it in the back side, and run another short cable to the router. Easy and no skill required.
Bought two for a home install, wanted to get rid of tacked up cables so I ran thru my attic instead. Although, these wall plates aren't meant to be sleek or give much room between a dresser and the wall for example. But rather have an clean outlet than a cable going straight thru. Tested them bought and no issues with signal.
The pieces snapped together right aways, connected the cables and the equipment was up and running over Ethernet in no time. I would certainly purchase again. Product was just as it was described
